Electric Hydrogen receives US$18.3 million DOE tax credit for advanced technology in US electrolyser manufacturing

Electric Hydrogen has received a US$18.3 million tax credit from the US Department of Energy under the Qualifying Advanced Energy Project initiative for its advanced US electrolyser manufacturing technology at the Electric Hydrogen Gigafactory in Devens, Massachusetts, US.

The DOE made its selection of projects based on a variety of factors including US manufacturing capacity, domestic job creation, ability to deliver on large-scale commercial deployment, speed of project completion, and total impact on decarbonisation, particularly in pathways that support the DOE’s Energy Earthshot targets for green hydrogen, US$1/kg of hydrogen by 2031.

Electric Hydrogen’s gigafactory will use its manufacturing technology coupled with proven frameworks and quality practices from already scaled industries like solar and auto, to produce reliable and high-quality electrolysers in large volumes to meet growing demand. The 1.2 GW facility will produce the low-cost PEM electrolyser stacks which are at the core of Electric Hydrogen’s 100 MW Plant product, on a scale that’s designed to unlock deep decarbonisation of critical industries. Once running at capacity, the stacks produced in the gigafactory can eliminate 2.4 million tpy of carbon dioxide.

According to a study by the Donahue Institute at UMass Amherst, Electric Hydrogen’s manufacturing will lead to the creation of 223 indirect local jobs, in addition to the 100 construction and manufacturing jobs, as a result of the scaling of its Massachusetts operations.

Electric Hydrogen’s low-cost electrolyser stacks are at the core of the company’s solution, a fully integrated 100 MW electrolyser plant, designed to deliver the lowest cost green hydrogen on earth. The plants are designed and manufactured in the US, and the company is currently building its first customer-sited 100 MW electrolyser plant in Texas, US, in addition to having existing operating plants in California, US.
