Intelligent Energy’s new mobile hydrogen fuel cell power unit provides a zero-emission alternative to diesel generators used for construction, infrastructure, telecoms, and temporary power applications.

Designed for off-grid environments, the IE-GRID 4 combines a fuel cell, battery, inverter, and control system in a single unit occupying less than 1m2.

Built for demanding temporary power applications, the system can power site equipment, CCTV and security systems, communications infrastructure, outdoor events, film and television production, catering facilities, and battery charging for tools and equipment.

The system can deliver up to 3.5 kW of continuous power, with peak output of up to 6 kW supported by an integrated battery. At the point of use, its only direct emissions are water and heat, eliminating diesel exhaust fumes, nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides, and particulate matter.

Operating significantly more quietly than conventional diesel generators, the IE-GRID 4 is particularly suited to noise-sensitive locations such as urban environments, residential areas, public spaces, and film production sets.

David Fields, Head of Product Line, IE-POWER™, Intelligent Energy, said: “Small diesel generators are everywhere because they solve a simple problem: providing reliable power where there is no grid connection. The IE-GRID 4 delivers that same reliability without the emissions, noise, or engine maintenance. The system provides reliable zero-emission power in a compact, deployment-ready package, making hydrogen a practical solution for construction, telecoms, events, and countless other off-grid applications.”

The IE-GRID 4 is designed for easy deployment. Integrated lifting points and an IP43-rated enclosure ensure robust outdoor operation that has already been demonstrated in real-world environments across Europe, powering live telecommunications networks and hydrogen energy installations at two international airports.

Now part of the growing IE-GRID portfolio, the system offers a practical, ready-to-deploy alternative to diesel generators and complements Intelligent Energy’s wider range of hydrogen power solutions, which scale from compact off-grid systems to multi-MW installations.
