Plug Power Inc., a US hydrogen solutions company, and GH2 Global, a Brazilian company that develops green hydrogen infrastructure in the country, have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate, throughout the country, the adoption of hydrogen-powered technologies for material handling.
The collaboration combines Plug Power's portfolio of hydrogen technologies – including GenDrive fuel cells and its fuelling infrastructure – with GH2's market knowledge, project development experience, and integration capabilities across Brazil's logistics (material handling and distribution centres), industrial, and heavy-duty transportation sectors.
Together, the companies will offer complete turnkey solutions that replace not only lead-acid battery propulsion but also other conventional fuels, such as diesel, LNG, and natural gas, with zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell systems. The result is reduced operational downtime, increased fleet productivity, optimised use of operational space, and progress towards decarbonisation goals.
"Brazil is poised to become a global leader in renewable energy, and green hydrogen is central to this transformation," said Andy Marsh, CEO of Plug Power. "The partnership with GH2 allows us to bring our established hydrogen technology and production capabilities to a market rich in renewable resources and industrial demand.”
Brazil's robust renewable energy matrix and extensive power grid create an ideal platform for integrating green hydrogen into material handling operations at scale. By leveraging this unique advantage, GH2 and Plug Power aim to accelerate the transition to hydrogen-powered logistics and establish a benchmark for sustainable industrial operations in the country.
"Brazil's renewable backbone makes it one of the most competitive markets in the world for hydrogen adoption," said Augusto Bias Daré Junior, CEO of GH2. "Our partnership with Plug allows us to combine cutting-edge fuel cell and hydrogen production technologies with our local project execution capabilities, ensuring scalable and economically viable hydrogen logistics solutions for warehouses, factories, and distribution networks throughout the country.”
Under the agreement, Plug Power will supply the hydrogen fuel cells along with the associated infrastructure, while GH2 will be responsible for project integration, licensing processes, and alignment with Brazil's renewable energy grid. The initial focus will be on large logistics and industrial hubs, with expansion to other strategic regions of the country.
The partnership supports Plug Power's global goal of enabling the use of 1000 tpd of green hydrogen by 2028, while positioning GH2 to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen-powered solutions for material handling in the logistics, manufacturing, and distribution sectors in Brazil.
