The Port of Marseille Fos and the company H4 Marseille Fos are taking a decisive new step towards the decarbonisation of the industrial-port zone of Fos-sur-Mer with the signing of occupancy agreements on 10 February 2026. This formalises the establishment of a large scale industrial project dedicated to the production of low-carbon hydrogen and renewable low-carbon synthetic fuels, such as e-kerosene for aviation.
Led by the company H4 Marseille Fos (a partnership between H2V and Hy2gen), the project represents an investment of €1.5 billion and plans to create 165 direct jobs. Its establishment on the Central Mole, Port of Marseille, France, now covers an area of approximately 46.6 hectares. The project will include three renewable hydrogen production units (300 MW), a synthetic fuel production unit, enabling the production of approximately 42 000 tpy of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen per production unit, and up to 75 000 t of e-kerosene. Industrial commissioning is scheduled for the end of 2030. This project represents up to 240 000 tpy of CO2 avoided.
"With the signing of the H4 Marseille Fos occupancy agreements, we are consolidating a forward-looking industrial project capable of producing sustainable aviation fuels and strengthening the low-carbon competitiveness of our region," said Rémi Costanno, Deputy General Manager of the Port of Marseille Fos. "This establishment exemplifies our commitment: to develop activity while respecting ecosystems and anticipating tomorrow's environmental needs."
"The signing of this H4 occupancy agreement completes the securing of our land establishment within the Port's domain. This decisive step for H4 Marseille Fos materialises several years of development and allows us to initiate the implementation phase of a large-scale industrial project focused on the production of renewable and low-carbon hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuels, while promoting the creation of sustainable jobs in the Fos-sur-Mer region," added Alexis Marnez, CEO of H4 Marseille Fos.
