SAMSUNG E&A, a total solutions provider for the global energy industry, in partnership with Nel Hydrogen, has launched CompassH2-A+, a 100 MW pressurised alkaline electrolysis solution at the World Hydrogen Summit in Rotterdam. The new offering marks the third product in the CompassH2 lineup — a portfolio that now spans atmospheric alkaline, pressurised alkaline, and proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolysis technologies.

CompassH2-A+ is built on Nel's pressurised alkaline electrolysers, arranged in containerised 25 MW stack modules. The compact design reduces the required plant footprint by 50% compared to alternative systems on the market, while producing hydrogen at 15 barg — significantly lowering the cost and complexity of downstream compression equipment.

CompassH2-A+ standard 100 MW configuration delivers approximately 40 tpd of hydrogen at 99.999 mol-percent purity, with a stack efficiency of 48.8 kWh/kg, within a core footprint of just 7,500 square meters.

Beyond the technology, SAMSUNG E&A provides a wrap guarantee covering the full integrated system – electrolyser stacks, Balance of Plant, and utilities – under a single performance commitment and a single counterparty. This structure directly addresses the fragmented guarantee arrangements that have historically complicated project financing. A Long-Term Service Agreement further extends the partnership throughout the plant’s entire lifecycle, encompassing operational support, scheduled stack replacement, and real-time performance monitoring. Since CompassH2-A+ is a pre-engineered solution, it also significantly shortens the Pre-FID timeline, removing months of early-stage engineering work that typically delays project progress.

Dr. Hyunseok Jeong, Green H2 Business Team Leader of SAMSUNG E&A, said: “CompassH2-A+ reflects our commitment to delivering solutions that are not just technically excellent, but commercially bankable. By expanding the CompassH2 portfolio, we provide customers the flexibility to choose the technology best suited to their project’s unique requirements.”

For clients where hydrogen is the feedstock rather than the end product, SAMSUNG E&A’s capabilities extend across the full downstream value chain – green ammonia, e-methanol, and sustainable aviation fuel – under the same reliable EPC counterparty. This end-to-end coverage fundamentally changes the risk profile for lenders and developers alike.

With CompassH2-A+, the Nel - SAMSUNG E&A partnership now offers a complete electrolysis portfolio spanning atmospheric alkaline, pressurized alkaline, and PEM technologies, enabling solutions tailored to each project’s specific requirements.
