Nordic Ren-Gas, an e-methane developer in Finland, and Sunfire, a global electrolysis company, have announced a long-term partnership agreement. Under the agreement, Sunfire will serve as a preferred supplier of electrolysis technology for Ren-Gas’ green hydrogen and e-methane projects.
By selecting Sunfire as a preferred supplier, Ren-Gas is strengthening the technology foundation for its future project pipeline. The agreement builds on the companies’ existing collaboration at Ren-Gas’ e-methane plant in Tampere, Finland, where Sunfire is supplying a 50 MW pressurised alkaline electrolyser.
Saara Kujala, CEO of Nordic Ren-Gas, stated: “Ren-Gas has developed a fully European value chain for its first e-methane project in Tampere. The value chain enables the production of competitive, renewable e-methane for the European road transportation markets. The support of reliable key equipment partners, such as Sunfire, has been invaluable throughout this journey, and will allow Ren-Gas to scale production across its project portfolio.”
Leveraging Finland’s strong renewable power conditions and connectivity to the European markets, and the business model based on sector integration, and a flexible operations model, Ren-Gas is demonstrating how industrial decarbonization can be achieved both at scale and economically. The signed partnership agreement reflects the company’s confidence in Sunfire’s recently launched HyLink® Alkaline 23 system, which provides the foundation for the successful deployment of bankable green hydrogen projects.

For Sunfire, the partnership marks another important step in strengthening its position in Finland’s hydrogen market, building on the company’s contribution to the country’s first industrial-scale green hydrogen project in Harjavalta. Across Europe, Sunfire’s electrolysers are deployed in major industrial hydrogen projects, including triple-megawatt installations in Germany and Spain.
The partnership follows another major milestone for Ren-Gas. Earlier this month, the company announced a renewable e-methane offtake agreement valued at approximately €1 billion with avanca/Alternoil. The agreement is among the largest commercial e-methane arrangements announced in Europe to date and provides long-term demand visibility for production from the Tampere facility.
