HyIron has announced a significant breakthrough in the company’s journey towards sustainable iron production.
On 12 March 2025, the electrolyser at the HyIron Oshivela plant produced its first green hydrogen, just under a year since construction began in April 2024. This marks a key moment for HyIron and for Namibia's green industrialisation ambitions.
The 12 MW electrolyser, now the largest of its kind in Southern Africa, is operating within the company’s smart micro grid and stably generating green hydrogen. The company is in the process of gradually ramping up the electrolyser to its full capacity, which will soon form the foundation for producing iron with zero emissions.
This achievement was supported by the Government of Namibia and their green hydrogen programme.
HyIron hopes to contribute to a cost-neutral Green Deal that benefits Namibia, Europe, and all stakeholders.
