Global Hydrogen Review,

A special milestone for the energy transition in the Netherlands: the first 25 kg of green hydrogen has been produced at H2 Hollandia in Drenthe. Although the entire installation is not yet in place, this first production demonstrates that the system works. The compressor will follow, as will the refueling infrastructure that will soon enable local industry and heavy transport to be supplied with green hydrogen.

From sustainable generation to application in the region

H2 Hollandia is a special project for the Netherlands, developed by Avitec, Repowered, and Novar. At this location, large scale generation of sustainable energy, smart conversion to hydrogen, and concrete application in the region come together.

That is exactly what the energy transition calls for. Not only generating sustainable energy, but also ensuring that this energy becomes available at the right time, in the right place, and in the right form. For some applications, green electricity is immediately the best solution. For other applications, green hydrogen can play an important role.

That is precisely why this first production is more than a technical test. It is a concrete step towards a new sustainable energy infrastructure.

Important step for H2 Hollandia

The fact that the first green hydrogen has now been successfully produced is an important step in the further development of H2 Hollandia. The project is unique in the Netherlands due to its scale, ambition, and impact.

In the coming period, work will continue on the installation and infrastructure needed to make green hydrogen available to local industry and heavy transport.

Together with partners

This milestone has been reached thanks to the efforts of all partners contributing to H2 Hollandia. In particular, Avitec, the Municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and the Province of Drenthe for their involvement and support.

The first green hydrogen has been produced. And that is just the beginning.
