Uniper completes first phase of hydrogen terminal

As part of the Open Season which was announced by Uniper in mid-May 2026 for its hydrogen import terminal in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, Uniper has signed Expressions of Interest (EoI) with market participants. The requested capacities resulted in a level of capacity reservations which enable Uniper to continue the development of the terminal.
The successful completion of the EoI phase confirms market interest and provides the basis for advancing the project through the subsequent development, permitting and commercialisation activities. The confirmation of the capacity reservations marks the successful finalisation of Phase 1 and the beginning of Phase 2, which includes the issuance of Heads of Terms and development of the Terminal Use Agreement for this Open Season.
The modular setup of the terminal allows for an initial import capacity which might be expanded to a maximum throughput of 2.6 million tpy of ammonia (corresponding to around 350 000 tpy of hydrogen). If the market shows the need for such terminal expansion, Uniper plans to launch one or several additional Open Seasons which might contain different capacity products and terms and conditions, safeguarding that the rights and interests of participants in the current Open Season are not adversely affected.
