Ramboll to deliver engineering services for hydrogen project

The Barrow project is one of the earliest and largest awarded under the UK Government’s first Hydrogen Allocation Round (HAR1) to reach a final investment decision, and will supply green hydrogen to Kimberly Clark’s manufacturing site.

The progress of the industry leading Barrow project represents a major step forward for the UK’s hydrogen sector and its transition to a low carbon energy system. When operational, this supply of green hydrogen is expected to reduce natural gas consumption on the site by up to 50% and reduce CO₂ emissions by approximately 18 300 tpy.

Ramboll has been working on the project since 2024 and moving forwards will be providing technical and programme assurance through detailed engineering, installation and commissioning. This will include contract administration, design and interface coordination, chairing Hazard and Operability studies, multidisciplinary technical reviews, and providing site support at key milestones.
