SWECO supports German hydrogen pipeline

Sweco has announced it is providing key services in land management and right-of-way for the planned HYBOR hydrogen pipeline in Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, and Thuringia. The approximately 120-km-long pipeline, running from Bobbau in Saxony-Anhalt to Rückersdorf in Thuringia, is part of Germany's core hydrogen network and is intended to strengthen the industrial base of eastern Germany.
Land management for approximately 120 km of hydrogen infrastructure
Sweco's services include, among other things, owner research, land negotiations, managing construction-related rights of way, and coordinating with stakeholders along the planned route. Discussions with numerous owners, land managers, and other contacts are planned over a period of approximately 16 months. This will provide Sweco with an important foundation for the further planning, permitting, and subsequent implementation of the hydrogen pipeline.
Contribution to climate-neutral energy supply in Central Germany
Parallel to the road rights work, preparatory soil investigations and environmental mapping of flora and fauna are being carried out for HYBOR. The results will be incorporated into the documents for the planning approval procedure.

With our experience in rights of way and property management, we contribute to creating the foundation for a future-proof hydrogen infrastructure,” said Falk Paulick, Head of Area Management East at Sweco.
HYBOR as a building block of the German hydrogen core network
The name HYBOR stands for Hydrogen Plant Rückersdorf . The hydrogen pipeline is being implemented by the German long - distance pipeline operator GASCADE as part of the infrastructure program "Flow – making hydrogen happen" and is scheduled for completion by 2029. It connects existing pipelines that will be used for hydrogen transport in the future and closes an important gap in the emerging hydrogen network. The project thus supports the supply of climate-neutral hydrogen to industry, storage facilities, and other consumers in Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, and Thuringia.
