Hydnum Steel and thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe have collaborated to help the transition to a decarbonised steel industry.

Hydnum Steel is building a flat steel plant in Puertollano, Spain, for clean steel production. Its CO2-free production process is based on the use of renewable energy and green hydrogen. Under the terms of the strategic agreement signed by the two companies, Hydnum Steel will supply thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe with up to 100 000 tpy of decarbonised flat steel for an initial period of seven years from the start of the plant's operations. This commitment underlines the growing interest in low environmental impact steel and reinforces both companies commitment to sustainability and advanced technology.

thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe have processing facilities and distribution centres throughout Europe and a range of customers in sectors including the automotive industry, construction, and household appliances. This agreement will enable the company to expand its range of environmentally friendly products and respond to the industry's growing interest in sustainable solutions. The company is part of thyssenkrupp Materials Services, a materials distribution and service company.

Marcus Wöhl, CEO of thyssenkrupp Materials Processing Europe, highlighted the importance of the agreement in an evolving market: "Interest in clean steel is growing rapidly and we need partners like Hydnum Steel to provide solutions that combine sustainability and innovation.”

Eva Maneiro, CEO of Hydnum Steel, added that: “We are building something more than steel; we are setting the standard for what it means to be sustainable in the 21st century and demonstrating that it is possible to produce steel in another way.”

The agreement also includes a joint approach to low environmental impact logistics solutions to optimise deliveries and reduce associated emissions. In addition, the two companies will explore business models and customised processing strategies to maximise the value of the products offered to their customers.
