Ionomr Innovations, a manufacturer of hydrocarbon-based membranes and ionomers, and Jolt Solutions, a manufacturer of nickel-based activated electrodes, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU).

Two component suppliers in the field of anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolysers are teaming up to develop turnkey solutions for the faster adoption of this critical technology.

The agreement involves integrating membranes and electrodes to generate knowledge which can be passed to the market to ease development activities and manufacturing of AEM electrolysers, alongside increasing their performance and durability. By providing thorough advice on the integration of these vital components, the end users will benefit from the wealth of knowledge generated by the companies.

The two companies have strong synergies and have already scaled production to support GW scale adoption of AEM electrolysis and can further scale as the market grows.

AEM electrolyser technology is widely recognised as the future of hydrogen production, offering the benefits of both PEM and AWE without the drawbacks. AEM technology uses no, or very low levels, of precious metals and can operate at elevated current densities giving them a smaller footprint and high hydrogen production rate, while the membrane technology prevents hydrogen and oxygen mixing, allowing for rapid ramp rates and highly effective pairing with renewable technology.
