Wild Hydrogen launches investment round to drive carbon-negative hydrogen production

Global Hydrogen Review,
Backed by £2.3 million in cornerstone investments, this round, raising £6 million, aims to scale Wild Hydrogen's proprietary Rising Pressure Reformer (RiPR) technology, which transforms biogenic materials into carbon-negative hydrogen fuel, bio-methane, biochar, and captured carbon dioxide directly addressing UK energy demands in hard-to-abate sectors such as construction, steel production, shipping, farming, and the manufacture of carbon-negative products.
Wild Hydrogen’s RiPR technology utilises wet biogenic feedstocks, such as agricultural and waste materials, to generate carbon-negative clear hydrogen fuel. As well as hydrogen, this process produces also produces bio-methane, as well as biochar, while capturing carbon dioxide, a feature that uniquely differentiates it from 'grey' and 'blue' hydrogen, which are largely derived from fossil fuels, and is more affordable and efficient than 'green' hydrogen.
The global hydrogen market, projected to exceed US$200 billion by 2030 (IEA Global Hydrogen Review 2023), reflects the need for clean alternatives, making Wild Hydrogen well-positioned to meet rising decarbonisation demand. Hydrogen production and use in 2022 was linked to more than 900 million t of carbon dioxide emissions, with low emission hydrogen currently accounting for only 0.7% of hydrogen demand. This need was further emphasised in last week’s Autumn Budget, where the Chancellor pledged £3.7 billion towards UK hydrogen and carbon capture projects for 2025 - 2026.
James Milner, CEO of Wild Hydrogen, said: "Our mission is clear, to bring a truly carbon-negative, scalable hydrogen solution to industries globally. This campaign propels us closer to that vision, paving the way for a net zero future where affordable, clean hydrogen can be used to power manufacturing, HGVs, and even commercial aircraft.”
Wild Hydrogen was recently selected by Innovate UK for its global business innovation missions to the US, South Korea, and Germany. Collaborations with esteemed institutions such as the Hydrogen Innovation Initiative, Cranfield University, and Helical Energy bolster its technological advancement and market readiness.
Since its founding in 2022, Wild Hydrogen has expanded its team from 2 to 14 and secured over £4 million in investment, including a £250 000 grant from BEIS.
