Stegra's CEO Henrik Henriksson confirms that Stegra and LKAB have agreed in principle and are planning jointly to carry out test deliveries of iron ore pellets at the end of 2026, after the period of track work on the railway. Test deliveries are a means for the companies to ensure that logistic flows work.
“Together with the team at LKAB we have, in good dialogues, developed a plan for test deliveries. We at Stegra hope this is the beginning of a long cooperation that will further strengthen Sweden's security of supply and its progressive position in the green industrial transition,” said Henrik Henriksson, CEO.
Using green hydrogen, the iron ore pellets will be reduced in the company's 145 m tall direct reduction plant. The emissions from this reduction step are steam, which replaces the CO2 emissions in the traditional blast furnace-based process that is prevalent in Europe.
