Hy2gen has secured a renewable fuel of non-biological origin (RFNBO) certification for their e-methane and renewable hydrogen plant in Germany.

The ATLANTIS production facility in Werlte, Germany, has been certified by CertifHy as the first German plant to produce e-methane and renewable hydrogen in accordance with the EU regulation for RFNBO.

This confirms that ATLANTIS meets all EU criteria, from full traceability to lifecycle emissions, and supplies products that help the industry achieve its CO2 targets in accordance with EU law.

Managing Director of Hy2gen Deutschland GmbH, Matthias Lisson, said: “I am proud that we are now officially one of the first sites worldwide to produce hydrogen and methane molecules with an RFNBO certification. We currently operate Atlantis, the largest e-methane production facility in the world. With the RFNBO certification, we increase the value of our molecules because it offers our customers the assurance that our products are renewable and can be used to decarbonise industrial sectors in order to comply with EU regulations.”

In parallel, Hy2gen have concluded a new power purchase agreement (PPA) to supply the Atlantis plant with additional green electricity. This will enable us to expand the electrolysis capacity until the end of 2025 to produce even more certified molecules for industrial decarbonisation.
