Global Hydrogen Review,
Mabanaft has announced its role as a founding member of the newly launched TransHyDE 2.0 initiative, which aims to advance the development of a robust European hydrogen infrastructure.
The initiative will officially launch on 6 May 2025 in Berlin, Germany.
With its expertise in future-oriented fuels, Mabanaft contributes to the establishment of a sustainable hydrogen economy.
Building on the national hydrogen flagship project TransHyDE, TransHyDE 2.0 expands its scope with an industry-driven approach.
The initiative serves as:
- A nucleus for new hydrogen infrastructure and derivative projects.
- A consultation platform for policymakers, businesses, and society.
- A bridge between industry and research.
- A network spanning the hydrogen value chain.
- The initiative focuses on seven implementation platforms (gH2, LH2, NH3, LOHC, DME and CO2, methanol) and four research platforms addressing system analysis, standardisation and safety, market and regulation, and public acceptance.
Philipp Kroepels, Director New Energy at Mabanaft, commented: “Participating in the TransHyDE 2.0 initiative is a significant step in our mission to supply our customers with clean hydrogen and its derivatives. By collaborating with stakeholders from industry and academia, we can share and consolidate knowledge, actively drive the development of a viable hydrogen infrastructure in Europe, and offer solutions for decarbonisation. In Hamburg, Germany, one of Europe’s largest ports, we are already developing import infrastructure for ammonia and hydrogen and working on retrofitting our tanks for methanol import and distribution.”
TransHyDE 2.0 is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, with Dr Axel Bree joining the advisory board. The initiative begins with twelve founding members from research, industry, and business, including Mabanaft GmbH & Co. KG, alongside organisations such as Clean World Hydrogen Consulting GmbH, ENERTRAG SE, and Fraunhofer IEG.
