On 6 May 2026, the BarMar company, composed of NaTran, Teréga, and Enagas (Spain), launched the public consultation on the BarMar project, with a first public meeting organised at the Palais des Congrès at 6 p.m in Gruissan, France.
BarMar is the 400 km subsea pipeline project connecting Barcelona, Spain, to Fos-sur-Mer, France, dedicated to transporting two million tpy of renewable hydrogen. It is a key segment of the European H2med corridor that interconnects the Iberian Peninsula, France, and Germany. This infrastructure is set to play a major role in decarbonising industry and helping to strengthen the European Union's energy sovereignty.
The project includes the creation of a compression station at the starting point in the port of Barcelona and an arrival station at Fos-sur-Mer. The study area for the pipeline's installation, which will be presented during the consultation is located at least 10 km from the French coast (excluding the landing point at Fos-sur-Mer).
2 months of consultation and 25 opportunities for discussion
From May 6 to July 12, 2026, BarMar will undergo a preliminary public consultation under the Environmental Code. Three neutral and independent guarantors, appointed by the National Commission for Public Debate, will follow the consultation, ensuring the sincerity of the exchanges and the proper information of the public.
In collaboration with the consultation guarantors, BarMar SAS wishes to offer the public a wide range of opportunities for discussion: public meetings, round tables, conference-debates, thematic visits, presentations to high school and university students, and mobile pop-up stands at markets. A total of 25 discussion sessions are proposed, some of which will be streamed live ; Further details can be found on the dedicated website. From this same site, the public has access to the digital register where they can submit their opinions and questions throughout the consultation period.
The first stop of the consultation takes place in Gruissan over two days:
- May 6 at 6 p.m.: large public project launch meeting, at the Palais des Congrès (13, avenue de Narbonne) and live via the Zoom application.
- May 7 at 2:30 p.m., then at 4:30 p.m.: two experts round tables on the strategic challenges of BarMar and the technical challenges of its realisation, at the Maison de la Méditerranée (place Raymond Gleizes)
