Hexagon Purus, a manufacturer of zero emission mobility and hydrogen infrastructure solutions, has launched HyCarrier, its new distribution system for multimodal hydrogen transportation.
HyCarrier is a modular type four multiple element gas container (MEGC) for transporting compressed hydrogen by road, rail, and inland waterway, and it offers up to 50 000 l of water capacity, corresponding to 1304 kg of hydrogen at a working pressure of 380 bar. Developed to meet the future requirements of multimodal hydrogen transportation, it draws on in-field service data as well as ongoing customer feedback from Hexagon Purus' existing distribution offering.
The new MEGC features a modular setup with optimised cylinder dimensions and a system design to maximise payload and reduce operating costs. It also has a flexible configuration and is available in sizes 10 - 45 ft at 300 and 380 bar to meet specific customer needs. With a periodic inspection interval of 10 years, HyCarrier also reduces operational downtime and inspection costs over the lifetime of the unit. It is developed and manufactured in-house with approximately 90% vertical integration, from cylinder manufacturing to final system integration.
“We are happy to announce the launch of HyCarrier, our new distribution system for multimodal hydrogen transportation. HyCarrier builds on the continuous development of our existing MEGC offering as well as decades of experience with safe handling of compressed gases,” said Michael Kleschinski, EVP, Hydrogen Infrastructure & Mobility at Hexagon Purus. “HyCarrier marks an important step in future-proofing Hexagon Purus’ hydrogen distribution offering, and we look forward to start delivering HyCarrier to our customers.”
Key features of HyCarrier
- Capacity: up to 50 000 l of water capacity – the largest Hexagon Purus MEGC to date.
- 10 year inspection interval: reduced inspection frequency and downtime over the unit’s lifetime.
- Multimodal: CSC-approved frame that can be lifted and stacked by crane, certified for transport by road, rail, and inland waterway.
- Flexible configuration: available in sizes 10 - 45 ft and configurable to customer requirements.
- Prepared for remote monitoring: designed so additional sensors and monitoring equipment can be added at any time.
- Designed for maintenance: standardised components to simplify repairs and spare part supply.
- Safety: built-in (jet-)fire protection – sheet-metal separation of all gas-wetted components, a dedicated fire barrier between cabinet and cylinder, and fire-triggered shut-off valves that isolate each section automatically to prevent gas backflow.
