Hiperbaric, a Spanish pioneer in the development of hydrogen compression equipment for sustainable mobility and industry, has signed an agreement with the French company Lhyfe, one of the world’s pioneers in the production of green and renewable hydrogen, to supply hydrogen compressors that the company will use for selected projects in Europe in the coming years.

The agreement represents the largest contract signed by Hiperbaric.

In September 2021, Lhyfe, inaugurated the first industrial plant for the production of renewable green hydrogen, connected to a renewable energy source. The first Lhyfe projects where Hiperbaric technology will be used are located in France and in Germany for renewable generation, compression and filling of pressurised hydrogen. First commissioning is planned for the end of 2023.

“For us it is a milestone and a great recognition that one of the world's pioneers in the production of green and renewable hydrogen such as Lhyfe has chosen us as the most reliable compressor partner to accompany them in future projects. It represents a breakthrough to expand our technology throughout the continent in the current energy challenge facing Europe and on whose roadmap green hydrogen takes on a strategic value to reduce carbon emissions”, said Andrés Hernando, CEO of Hiperbaric.

"With our experience in high-pressure applications, we intend to be part of the solution for a sustainable energy transition and contribute our Hydrogen High-Pressure Compression Technology to the hydrogen value chain," added Hernando.

Lhyfe’s strategy is to deploy green and renewable hydrogen production plants throughout Europe. In each of them, Lhyfe carries out the development, engineering and construction of the hydrogen production unit, and ensures all production operations, as well as the management of renewable energies and the commercialisation and distribution of green and renewable hydrogen.

The company has just inaugurated its offshore renewable hydrogen production demonstrator in Saint-Nazaire, France. This will be the first time that renewable hydrogen is produced at sea.

Hiperbaric hydrogen compression technology is based on a reciprocal and ‘oil free’ piston. As a result of the company's experience and its R&D efforts, Hiperbaric hydrogen compression technology approaches an isothermal compression process, allowing high reliability and reduced energy consumption. Due to its innovative design, the number of moving parts of the compressor is reduced, which achieves great durability in the compression system, with a life cycle of more than 10 years. The Hiperbaric compressor range includes its cooling systems and it is able to compress hydrogen from an inlet pressure of 20 bar to 200 - 950 bar for filling storage tanks.

Hiperbaric compressor technology has already been installed in Germany for a green hydrogen refueling station for public buses. Hiperbaric compressors are part also of the first Spanish green hydrogen project ‘Green Hysland - Power to Green Hydrogen’ in Mallorca Island, which has received EU financing through FCH JU (Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking).
