Climate Impact Corp. (CIC) has announced an agreement with Purus Marine (Purus) to develop a net zero shipping pathway for CIC’s renewable hydrogen fuels. The announcement represents a significant step in creating an end-to-end, net zero hydrogen product.

This partnership would enable the global transport of renewable hydrogen developed by CIC’s modular hydrogen solution, which has been designed to produce affordable, sustainable, and reliable energy. With secured hydrogen demand in the Asia-Pacific and Europe supporting the development of CIC’s two 10 GW projects in Australia, a partnership with Purus’ low-carbon shipping capability would offer the market a sustainable fuel option, operating at net zero when accounting for carbon offsetting.

CIC Chairman David Green said the agreement was critical in creating a hydrogen product that met the ambitions of energy and derivatives customers. “Through this agreement with Purus, we have further secured a renewable-powered integrated supply chain that will help achieve our customers’ net zero goals,” Green added.

Green underlined that affordability was at the core of both partners’ approach to shipping renewable hydrogen.

“Every decision we have made in building our modules and securing a supply chain at scale is designed to achieve a US$2/kg price for our renewable hydrogen,” Green commented. “Purus’ development in sustainable shipping, adopted alongside these technologies, allows us to maintain this focus without sacrificing affordability.”
