Global Hydrogen Review,
Air Products will bolster its presence in the UK hydrogen market - and its support for the UK Government’s hydrogen ambitions - with a £6.5 million investment in a trailer and cylinder filling station at its Llanwern hydrogen facility in South Wales.
The hydrogen filling station, which is expected to be onstream in Spring 2023, will make an additional 1.5 tonnes of fuel-cell-grade hydrogen available daily to serve the transport and energy transition market, with capacity to serve a fleet of 100 buses or 50 trucks.
Air Products provides end-to-end hydrogen solutions, from production to supply, distribution and dispensing. The investment in Llanwern will bring further confidence to end-users of green hydrogen, supporting national and global net-zero targets.
The Company is playing a central role in supporting the UK’s energy transition and growth ambitions. Manish Patel, Air Products’ UK Hydrogen for Mobility Director, explains:
“At Air Products, we are working with commercial partners and governments in the UK and around the world to drive the energy transition. Air Products has made an industry-leading commitment of at least $15 billion to clean energy transition megaprojects to ensure when governments or industries want to make the switch to clean hydrogen, they will know they have a reliable and secure supply.”
“With many countries looking to secure more diverse energy sources, hydrogen presents an opportunity to provide fuels that are lower-carbon and more secure. The production assets and infrastructure required also offer a major source of economic growth. Air Products already has multi-million-pound hydrogen projects under construction in the UK, and are actively seeking future investment opportunities. We recently announced plans to bring the first large-scale, green hydrogen production facility to the Port of Immingham, UK, together with Associated British Ports, as well as plans for the UK’s largest blue hydrogen facility. We look forward to continuing constructive dialogue with the Government on how the benefits arising from these investments may be brought forward quickly.”
Talking specifically about the Welsh market, Patel added: “With a hydrogen pathway for Wales under development, it’s an exciting time to be investing in South Wales and we hope that our investment will give real impetus and momentum to the wider green economy in the region.”
As the world’s largest hydrogen producer, Air Products has experience across the full value chain for hydrogen and is driving sustainable growth by building, owning and operating the world’s largest production, gasification, carbon capture, transportation and fuelling projects related to hydrogen. The company’s technologies are used in over 1.5 million refuellings annually across 20 countries. With over 60 years of global hydrogen experience operating in over 50 countries, Air Products has the proven capability and know-how to make hydrogen through all available production methods and to distribute this increasingly important emission-free fuel safely, reliably, and economically.
As a member of the Hydrogen Council, Hydrogen Europe and the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance, Air Products has established a trusted reputation for reliability and safe operation.
